The Race

What a day! It was not too hot or cold for a few thousand celebrants to enjoy perfect weather conditions as we walked, ran or paraded up the 10th Avenue hill in costume, high spirits or both. Thanks to everyone who helped us in raising $100,000 for the BC Children’s Hospital in this 2nd edition of the Chip’s Not Dead Yet Memorial Mile. In the Elite Wave, Haron Lagat narrowly bested Kip Kangogo to win $20,000 cash with a 4:49.2 mile. When you relate that to a flat mile, it is equivalent to a 3:59 (uphills are harder by 1 second for every meter gained over 1 mile and 10th Avenue from Alma to Blanca had a gain of 50 meters). General results for the Timed Wave can be found here. There are hundreds of excellent photos of the day available here.
